vinyl flooring Removal

The story of my hall renovation would make strong men quake. The hallway had been covered in lino tiles which were beginning to show their age. We knew that there were Minton tiles under this covering. I knew of a neighbour that had her tiles treated by Sarah. When I saw the pictures of what had been achieved there, I wanted that look and feel for my house too. So luxurious so bright and welcoming, such finesse, so in-keeping with houses of a certain age.

Sarah set about my job. The lino tiles had been stuck down with some material that defied description, which only gave up its deployment with a struggle. But that was just fluff. The real issue was that the adhesive left behind, rock hard and impervious to any conventional treatment that one would have hoped could cleansed the surface area. To see Sarah on her hands and knees chiselling away at that material was an object lesson in persistence and dedication.

She had chapter and verse on the whole process of tile recovery. Technical knowledge and experience of great scope. I trusted her and was admiring of her attachment to her work. After several days the work was accomplished. Despite the mistreatment of the Minton tiles by other parties, the finished endeavour revealed a vibrant, a pleasurable vision which was a fitting end to the care and diligence of a proper craftsperson. You have to love your work to deploy such an effort.

Heritage encaustic tiling

We were struggling to find a tiler who could lay new encaustic Victorian tiles properly in our vestibule. We were so lucky to contact Heritage tiling and through them Sarah at Angel tiling.

It is a rare thing to find true professionals these days. The attention to detail from the subfloor to laying the tiles was exemplary. The site was protected well and cleaned up to a high standard.

The finished product is perfect and really finishes our house off. We had looked at various local tilers and they had no idea of how to handle and properly set out these tiles. Sarah certainly will give you her best. She is an hard worker and will always make sure the client is involved in any decision making along the way.

Whilst in the property Sarah also tiled the wall behind our cooker with modern tiling. This was child’s play for her and another fantastic finish. I can only thoroughly recommend Sarah at Angel tiling for heritage or modern tiling work.

Tiled Floor Restoration

We contacted Sarah via a recommendation from Heritage Tiling after pulling back a fitted carpet to reveal a very old and dirty tiled floor in the dining room and entrance hall of our circa 1905 Victorian home.

After initially trying to clean it ourselves and attempting to remove efflorence marks, it was clear we would need expert advice and heavier equipment. In addition, we also discovered that the central section had everal badly damaged tiles along with ‘tenting’ causing the floor to be uneven.

Sarah came to provide an initial inspection and started the work approximately 8 weeks later. She was able to carefully and expertly cut out tiles in the tented area without damaging those around it and used any tiles, which were salvageable, to repair other sections of the floor which had been damaged from carpet grippers etc.

She was also able to remove an unsightly concrete channel which had been laid by previous owners after a front door installation – this looked very out of place. However Sarah has been able to use tile offcuts to create a new tiled door threshold which fits in so well, it looks like it has always been part of the original floor! Unfortunately in the central section, we were unable to source a perfect match for the minton red tiles due to the age of the originals, however Sarah has filled this area with quarry tiles of a similar age which are sympathetic to the design of the floor. She was also able to level this section so that it was no longer uneven.

Sarah spent many days cleaning the floor with various grades of cleaning pads, which took longer than originally anticipated due to the amount of dirt which had been ingrained in the tiles for what is probably almost a century! Once we were happy with the cleaning, and after several days of leaving the tiles to ‘breathe’ and dry out, Sarah sealed the tiles with a breathable protective sealer. Now work has been completed, the floor is unrecognisable from the initial condition we found under the carpet and looks as close to the original floor as we can imagine. In addition to the quality of the work, we were extremely happy with Sarah’s professionalism and reliability as a tradesperson. In fact, she is the most reliable and hard-working trades person we have had the pleasure of working with. We found that she was extremely committed to the project and was happy to listen to any concerns we had. She always turned up on time and stayed late if required, whilst keeping us constantly updated and in the loop with what stage she was at in the restoration.

I would be more than happy to recommend Sarah for another heritage or tiling project and wouldn’t hesitate to use her services again in the future.

Entrance Hallway Project

Sarah was first recommended to us by our plumber when we were having a new bathroom installed. She tiled all the walls and floor for us and did a brilliant job which we were very happy with.

A few months later we found a glimpse of what looked like original tiles under some skirting board, so had to call Sarah for her advice.  Sarah came to the house to take a look and she agreed it was original black and white tiles.  Previous owners had covered up the original tiles with self-levelling concrete/latex, although we didn’t have high hopes Sarah was confident that she could get these back to their original best.

After checking various areas to assess the damage/next steps, she diligently chipped away at all the concrete uncovering the lovely Art Deco black and white tiles underneath. We could see it was a painstaking process as she cleaned away years of grime before replacing and restoring some of the damaged tiles.  Through Sarah’s hard work and talent, we now have this amazing original feature restored to its previous glory (after almost 100 years!!)

This is now complete, and our hallway looks brilliant, the tiles have made more of a difference than we could have hoped for and Sarah’s hard work and attention to detail have really paid off.

If we had any other tiling work, we would only go to Sarah and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone. I was specifically impressed with the care, detail and hard work Sarah put into the restoration project.  Can’t thank her enough!
